Here’s how the Jayhawks (2-2, 0-1 in Big 12 Conference) graded out from this victory against the Blue Raiders (2-3, 0-1 in Conference USA):
Offense: KU bounces back
After a performance against Arizona State that featured far too much inconsistency, Kansas’ offense bounced back with its play against Middle Tennessee. KU’s rushing attack, spearheaded by redshirt junior running back Dylan Edwards and redshirt sophomore quarterback Isaiah Marshall, collected 480 yards on the ground and led the way for the Jayhawks' offense that finished with 706 yards overall. Edwards finished with three rushing touchdowns in what became his best game so far with KU.

Defense: Kansas shuts out Middle Tennessee
Kansas stymied Middle Tennessee time and again Saturday, shutting the Blue Raiders out as the Jayhawks only allowed 136 total yards. KU finished with one sack and seven tackles for loss, only allowing 3.2 yards per play. Kansas junior defensive end Leroy Harris III also forced a turnover by forcing a fumble.

Special teams: Martin Connington connects on all his kicks
KU redshirt sophomore kicker Martin Connington was perfect Saturday, hitting both of his field goals and all of his extra points. Redshirt junior wide receiver Keaton Kubecka also had a 35-yard punt return. But Kansas will need to look at its kick return coverage, as Middle Tennessee enjoyed too much success there.

Coaching: Kansas gathers some momentum
Kansas more than got the job done as the team wrapped up non-conference play and can now look ahead to the rest of its Big 12 slate. There was never a moment when it looked as if Middle Tennessee would be able to come in and pull off an upset. Kansas had its moments where it took chances and was aggressive but thrived as well with consistent execution.
