Coach Sean McVay’s Rams got rough news on Aaron Donald ahead of Week 4’s clash at Lincoln Financial Field in Philadelphia. The Rams are expected to get Puka Nacua back, which bodes well for their long-term playoff hopes in Donald’s stead.
ESPN featured reporter Ian Rapoport shared news on Donald along with a prevailing opinion that shutting down the star defensive tackle now could be good for the Rams’ long-term playoff goals.
“What the team wants to do is sit him out now with the hopes of healing this for the long term,” Rapoport said. “The reason you sign Aaron Donald is for December and January, not for October,” he added. Rapoport added that Donald will get 53-man roster bonus of $666,666 this week even without playing.

The Rams have become a polarizing team after a 1-2 start to the season that included a blowout win over the Giants and close loss to the Broncos in Week 3. Nacua’s return has Rams fans smiling and also drew an incensed take from Stephen A. Smith that had Dan Orlovsky and Marcus Spears shaking their heads on ESPN’s First Take TV show.
Donald will be missed in Week 4 as the Rams stare down the prospect of potentially falling to 1-3, a tough place to be early on. Matthew Stafford and Nacua’s passing acumen could be enough to rescue a short-handed defense, but for now, all eyes are on Donald as fans wonder whether the NFL legend will be able to fully earn his lucrative contract over the course of this NFL season.
