Michael King, right handed pitcher

  • Stats: 12-10, 3.21 ERA in 32 starts, 159 strikeouts in 185 innings, 1.178 WHIP, 20 homers, 70 walks.
  • Age: 31 years old
  • Experience: eight MLB seasons
  • Playoff experience: Five games. Five earned runs in 22 innings (2.05 ERA). Playoff appearances in three consecutive seasons.
  • Last appearance: Sept. 29 vs. Chicago Cubs (zero runs on one hit in seven innings, eight strikeouts, three walks).
  • Vs. Brewers in 2026: Allowed one earned run on six hits in 5⅔ innings with five strikeouts and two walks.
  • Of note: King took a no-hitter into the seventh inning of Game 1 in the NL wild-card series against the Cubs on Tuesday.
  • Of note: King was traded from the Marlins to the Yankees after the 2017 season in a deal that also featured former Brewers farmhand Garrett Cooper going the other direction. King was traded to San Diego as part of the blockbuster Juan Soto trade after the 2023 season.
  • Quotable: "[Facing the Brewers] definitely brings you back to the fundamentals of baseball – long holds, quick to the plate, field in your position. They put the pressure on. And similar to what I was saying, we want to play Padre baseball. They're going to try to make us play that Brewer style of baseball. And if they can speed it up and speed me up on the mound, then they're gonna win."

Logan Henderson, right-handed pitcher

  • Stats: 11-3, 2.47 ERA in 18 starts, 110 strikeouts in 98 innings, 0.844 WHIP, 14 homers, 19 walks.
  • Age: 24
  • Experience: Two MLB seasons
  • Playoff experience: First playoff appearance
  • Last appearance: Sept. 23 at Phillies (one run on four hits in five innings, three strikeouts, three walks).
  • Vs. Padres in 2026: Allowed three earned runs on five hits in 6⅓ innings, seven strikeouts, one walk.
  • Of note: After battling through back ailments earlier this year, Henderson has become the clear No. 2 for the pitching staff even though he's still a rookie.
  • Of note: Henderson has yet to allow more than three runs in any of his 23 career appearances.
  • Quotable: "I feel like I've grown a lot as a pitcher, just getting some more innings under my belt. And talking to guys like Woodruff and all the guys in the clubhouse, there's just so much to learn. He'll tell you there's so much more for him to learn in this game as well, which is a cool thing. But the number one thing I'd say is just being available and being able to contribute for the team."

Who will start Game 3 for the Brewers and Padres?

After a day off Monday, the Brewers expect to start Dustin May for Game 3 in San Diego on Oct. 6. May threw a complete-game one-hitter against the Padres earlier this year while pitching for the Cardinals and has made three starts against San Diego this year, allowing three earned runs in 22 innings (1.23 ERA). For the year, however, May has a 4.80 ERA in 31 starts.

The Padres will counter with Nick Pivetta, who has a 2.86 ERA this year in eight starts. He just pitched against the Cubs in the wild-card series and allowed one run on three hits in 3⅓ innings.
