“Put Savion Hiter on the Bench”: Fans Not Happy As 5-Star Recruit Puts Up Single Digit Yards vs Minnesota
· Yahoo Sports
Michigan fans held high expectations for running back Savion Hiter, a five-star recruit who entered as a freshman. Fans were disappointed with his performance in Saturday’s matchup against the Minnesota Golden Gophers.
Entering the fourth quarter, Hiter has not even run for double-digit yards. On four carries, he has managed only six yards, and his underwhelming ball-handling with quarterback Bryce Underwood is why Michigan has rushed for just 48 yards in the first three quarters. As a result, the Wolverines are trailing by six points in the final quarter.

“Put Hiter on the bench until he learns how to stop taking the ball from Bryce on read options. I dont care how talented he is it’s killing drives,” one fan wrote.
“Hiters way overrated,” another fan added.
“Just don’t know how he’s not learning,” one fan reacted.
“I just don’t get how this is happening,” one fan remarked.
“Savion Hiter was all hype. He just looks awful to start the year. I don’t see anything at all out of him. No way he was a 5* talent,” a fan said.
“Savion Hiter is a huge bust,” one fan added.
Hiter is a freshman running back from Louisa County, Virginia, and Michigan lists him at 5-foot-11 and 212 pounds. His massive size and top rating were probably why Michigan fans were banking on him.
As Hiter struggled, Michigan quarterback Underwood has handed the ball more times to Jordan Marshall, who has scored a touchdown and rushed for 32 yards. Underwood himself has rushed for just 10 yards on six carries. He has also thrown two interceptions, one of which was returned for a touchdown before halftime.
How 5-Star Michigan RB Savion Hiter Performed in First Four Games
In his first four games, Savion Hiter accumulated 136 rushing yards and two touchdowns on 38 carries.
Against Western Michigan, he carried the ball five times for 15 yards. He managed just six yards on eight carries against Oklahoma. He registered a big game against UTEP, rushing for 62 yards and two touchdowns on 11 carries. In the dramatic 20-19 loss against Iowa, Hiter had 53 yards on 14 carries. His double-digit yardage in the last two games raised fan expectations.
Nonetheless, after already suffering a one-point loss to Iowa, Michigan could be looking at another upset if they can’t erase a 6-point deficit to make a comeback in the final quarter against Minnesota.
