It is the first time the Class A boys golf tournament is being played at Lakeview since South Dakota went to three classes of boys golf in 2001.
The region team champions entering the Class A state meet were Tri-Valley (315), Dakota Valley (294), Aberdeen Roncalli (306) and St. Thomas More (326). Vermillion, which was second in Region 2A behind Dakota Valley, also broke 300 as a team in the region tournament. The teams participating in the tournament will send up to six golfers, but the top-four scores each day will count toward the team title.
Dakota Valley won the 2025 Class A state team title by four shots over Vermillion. Those two teams have split the last four state team titles, with the Panthers winning the title in 2024 and 2025, and Vermillion winning state championships in 2022 and 2023.
On the individual front, Aberdeen Roncalli's Harper Schnabel had the lowest round of the regional tournaments, shooting a 4-under-par 68 on Monday, Sept. 28, at Lakeview in the Region 3A tournament. He finished 19th at the Class A state meet in 2025 in Vermillion.
Other individual regional medalists included Tri-Valley's Treyson Richter (75, Region 1A), Elk Point-Jefferson's Ben Akin (70, Region 2A) and St. Thomas More's Andrew Levine (75, Region 4A).
Chamberlain's Chase McQuirk also broke par with a 1-under-71 in the Region 3A tournament, finishing second at Lakeview. With the graduation of 2025 Class A state champion Hayden Heig, of St. Thomas More, Class A is assured of having a different individual champion for the 15th year in a row.
