Arizona had the ball at the New York 4 with 22 seconds left, trailing 30-24 after Marvin Harrison Jr. drew a pass interference penalty. Three passes fell incomplete before Banks’ interception on fourth down. The Cardinals (1-3) have lost three straight since coach Mike LaFleur won his debut at the Los Angeles Chargers in Week 1.
Jacoby Brissett’s Final-Play Interception Brings Calls for Carson Beck
After the loss, former ROTB staff writer Andy Kwong and Damian Parson, who covers the NFL draft and college football, posted that the Cardinals should turn to rookie quarterback Carson Beck.
Asked after the game whether he would consider changing quarterbacks, LaFleur answered in one word. “No,” he said.
Brissett finished 21 of 35 for 166 yards with two touchdowns and three interceptions. His 55.2 passer rating was his lowest as a starter since 2022, according to Arizona Cardinals On SI.
“It’s no magic words, but to turn the page,” Brissett said when asked about moving forward. “Let’s get back to work, let’s obviously correct it from the film, and then just get back to work. That’s the only thing you can do.”
The Cardinals marked the result with a one-word post, “Final.”
In Arizona Sports’ postgame reactions, John Gambadoro, co-host of Burns & Gambo, faulted the play calling on Arizona’s four straight passes from the 4. He argued that rookie running back Jeremiyah Love had to touch the ball at least once on the drive, noting that Arizona still had a timeout.
LaFleur said after the game that Tyler Allgeier was his choice late because of Allgeier’s third-down ability and pass protection. Love, the No. 3 overall pick, ran 14 times for 63 yards.
Love came up hobbled after one of Brissett’s second-quarter interceptions and returned after trainers tended to him, and he was not on the field for the final red-zone sequence, Arizona Sports reported. “It’s been a long year for me,” Love said after the game of his jump from college to the NFL with little time off. “The body sometimes is down. The body sometimes is tired.”
“But I didn’t go out there and hurt anything or anything like that,” he said. “They’re just doing what they need to do.”

“Cardinals need to prepare Carson Beck to start,” Parson wrote on X. “This Jacoby Brissett experience is hard to watch.”
Brissett is 2-14 as the Cardinals’ starter dating to last season, according to Arizona Sports. Two of his interceptions, both tipped, came in the second quarter, when Arizona’s 14-3 lead became a 19-17 halftime deficit.
“There’s a lot of factors,” LaFleur said of the interceptions. “The last one is what it is right there, and we’ve got to improve.”
Jacoby Brissett’s Raise, Cardinals’ Quarterback Plan Questioned After 1-3 Start
“Cardinals gave Jacoby Brissett the pay day he wanted and throws a pick six to end the game,” Kwong wrote on X. “Gimme Carson Beck. Done with this.”
Brissett, who serves as his own agent, skipped the team’s voluntary offseason work before signing a new contract July 26 that gave him a $10 million raise. ESPN and NFL Network reported the deal pays him $15.5 million this season, and he is set to become a free agent afterward. The Cardinals also signed veteran Gardner Minshew II and drafted Beck out of Miami in the third round.
“You give Brissett a raise, sign Minshew, draft Beck round 3 who may not see the field,” one fan wrote. “What’s the longterm vision?”
“I like to think I keep it real with these guys, this one’s going to sting,” LaFleur said. “That’s not gonna be the most fun ride home, and there’s certainly things that I know I wish I would have done better, whether it be in the preparation phase or within that game.”
“Please for the love of god get Jacoby Brissett off the field and put in Carson Beck. I can’t keep seeing Cardinals getting intercepted every time Brissett passes the [expletive] ball. 1-3 what the [expletive] are we doing, seriously,” another fan wrote.
Any switch would come behind an offensive line dealing with injuries. Left tackle Paris Johnson Jr. hurt his biceps late in the game, and right guard Isaiah Adams was carted off with an ankle injury. If Johnson misses time, rookie Jayden Williams is in line to step in, according to the team’s website. On defense, safety Andrew Wingard was carted off with a knee injury.

Not everyone wants the switch. “Seeing all these AZ Cardinals fans calling for Beck to start over Brissett is insane,” one fan wrote, arguing that a rookie playing behind Arizona’s offensive line could get injured in his first season.
The Cardinals host the Lions next Sunday, then face the Rams and Broncos. “It might sting even tomorrow,” LaFleur said. “But when they leave that building, like I say, I don’t care if we’re 4-0 [or] 0-4 or somewhere in between, which we are, we got to get right back to work on Wednesday because no one’s gonna feel sorry for us.”
