Former Germany defender Matthias Ginter has renewed his contract at boyhood club Freiburg for an undisclosed period, the Bundesliga side said on Tuesday.
Ginter, 32, joined Freiburg's academy at under-13 level and made his Bundesliga debut in 2012. He left in 2014 but returned in 2022 after terms at Borussia Dortmund and Borussia Mönchengladbach.

Centre back Ginter has played 255 matches for last season's Europa League finalists Freiburg, scoring 20 goals and providing 19 assists.
"Matze is a key figure in our team," chief sporting officer Jochen Saier said.
"The quality and consistency of his performances have been hugely impressive, and he's played an important role in the team's development. Even after so many years in professional football, Matze is still as driven and ambitious as ever."
Ginter said that Freiburg have been "a huge part of my life since I was a kid, when I used to stand in the children's section at the Dreisamstadion.
"The way the club has developed since then has been incredible. We want to keep building on what we've achieved together and continue pushing ourselves."
Ginter won 51 Germany caps between 2014 and 2023, was a non-playing member of the squad that won the 2014 World Cup and helped Germany win the Confederations Cup in 2017. He also won Olympic silver in 2016.
