Xavier Worthy’s reaction to Chiefs teammate’s injury goes viral
Chiefs wide receiver Tyquan Thornton sustained a dislocated left ankle with associated ligament damage during the fourth quarter of the Raiders game at Allegiant Stadium. After hauling in a 55-yard pass from Patrick Mahomes that advanced the ball to the Raiders’ 5-yard line, Thornton was tackled from behind by defensive back Treydan Stukes. His left leg became trapped beneath the defender, twisting the ankle at an unnatural angle.

Thornton did not initially notice the injury to his ankle. He rose briefly, signaled for a first down, and began to celebrate before collapsing once weight was placed on the foot. Medical staff applied an air cast and carted him from the field. Team doctors reduced the dislocation on site, he returned to Kansas City with the squad.

After the game, Mahomes was asked about Thornton’s injury. He offered his disappointment with it, but also appreciated his role in the victory. He said, “It sucks that he hurt his ankle on that play, but it was a big play for us. It helped us go get the win. It’s tough because those guys put in so much work.”
He added, “I was in that spot last year. One play can change your season. You hope for the best, but at the same time, you want to show him support. I know how it is when you’re in that position, and it’s like the world is closing in on you. He’s one of the best teammates I’ve ever had.”
The Chiefs will now take on the Los Angeles Chargers next.
