Saturday will be the first time in Bob Chesney’s tenure with the UCLA Bruins that the program will be playing as a ranked team. UCLA will be against another ranked team, the No. 13 Oregon Ducks, but Chesney doesn’t want his team feeling content.

Not only is Chesney looking to stay unbeaten, he’s trying to maintain momentum for the program. It’s already been an impressive turnaround for the program but UCLA’s eyes are on greater achievements.

Ahead of Saturday’s marquee matchup, Chesney reminded his team of just that.

“If you pay attention to this number, it will go away, right?” Chesney said. “If you pay attention to what you did to get that number, and only focus on that, and improve on that, maybe the number even gets better.”

UCLA would certainly climb the rankings with an upset win on Saturday, they’d greatly improve their odds at a College Football Playoff appearance too.

“I think that we are capable of that complementary game of football,” Chesney said. “Ultimately, this is a situation where our guys have to be able to step up and can’t listen any outside noise throughout the week.”

The Bruins will head into Autzen Stadium as 10.5 point underdogs. Saturday will also be the first game of the season where UCLA’s not favored but the team will roll into Eugene with plenty of confidence after their 4-0 start to the season.
