Recent speculation has suggested the Napoli star would consider pulling the curtains on his Serie A tenure after three seasons, which would take him to within a year of his contract expiring.

Indeed, McTominay’s terms in Naples run until June 2028, hence the side wanting to get on top of the situation and have him make a firm decision on his future.
Should he inform them that he is targeting a return to England, it’s said that Aston Villa and his former club, Manchester United, are two suitors who would consider pursuing a deal.
United bid farewell to their academy graduate in the summer of 2024 shortly after they had shelled out a whopping £42 million to bring in Manuel Ugarte.
As the season progressed, however, United chiefs likely began to rue their decision, as McTominay played an influential role at the heart of Napoli’s starting XI as they went on to win the Scudetto.
The Scotland international ended his maiden campaign being named the division’s MVP, while simultaneously becoming a cult hero at the Stadio Diego Armando Maradona and in the streets of Naples.

It remains to be seen if McTominay himself would look favourably on a reunion with his boyhood team at Old Trafford, or whether he would prefer a new venture entirely with Villa.
Journalist Giovanni Scotto weighed in on the situation on YouTube, saying (as quoted by AreaNapoli): “He hasn’t renewed with Napoli and wants to think things through. Manchester United and Aston Villa have shown some interest, but McTominay intends to wait.
“Napoli don’t want to lose McTominay and will offer him a contract renewal with the possibility of leaving through a gentlemen’s agreement; a sort of handshake.”
