Lincoln Riley’s USC Trojans scored a huge 31-23 road win over Matt Campbell’s Penn State Nittany Lions, one that came with a bad decision to onside kick to start the second half. USC star wideout Trent Mosley was on the injury report before the game, but got his health right in time to lead the way to the win.

Mosley recorded 111 yards receiving on nine receptions including a touchdown, assisting his QB Jayden Maiava on a big day in Happy Valley.
“Look at that celebration from Lincoln Riley on the sideline,” Nicole Auerbach of NBC wrote. “That’s a big win for USC on the road.”

A contingent of Trojans fans watched from the upper deck as the final seconds ticked off the clock, sending Riley’s team to 6-1 on the season and knocking Penn State down to 3-3. The crowd totaled 114,419 people, the largest in the history of Beaver Stadium, making it the fourth largest attendance mark in college football history. The game was a “white out,” denoting the white t-shirts worn by members of the crowd. Penn State fell to 13-10 in white out games as a result of the Week 6 loss.
Maiava, who got an eye-opening top ten ranking from Joel Klatt before the season, was his usual brilliant self with stats of 21-of-33 passing for 301 yards and three touchdowns. He found six receivers, zeroing in on Mosley, Tanook Hines and Zach Williams throughout much of the game.
The Trojans look like a contender in the Big Ten just weeks after an upset home loss against a depleted Oregon Ducks team. A week off before October 24’s game at Wisconsin will give Riley a chance to tweak his game plans, and to celebrate further, headed into the meat of the Trojans’ Big Ten schedule.
