The Minnesota Timberwolves have plenty of reason for optimism coming into the 2026-27 season due to their new backcourt of LaMelo Ball and Anthony Edwards. Edwards is a rising star and arguably the best shooting guard in the NBA, and pairing him alongside an exciting young point guard like Ball has the potential to produce plenty of highlight plays. And for Timberwolves coach Chris Finch, he wants his star guards to be on the court together as much as possible, as per Jon Krawczynski of The Athletic.

“If you look at the shots Ant was able to make last night, they were all super easy,” Finch said. “A lot of them were generated through LaMelo’s playmaking.”

In recent seasons, Anthony Edwards has taken on more of a point guard role for the Timberwolves, but with LaMelo Ball in tow, Edwards can play more of his natural two-guard position and allow Ball to be the primary ball-handler. And as Chris Finch mentioned, it helps the Timberwolves’ offense when Ball is able to generate easy shots for Edwards.
