Texas A&M is a finalist to land 2028 4-star CB out of Florida

· Yahoo Sports

Texas A&M's poor start to the 2026 season, sitting at 3-3 and 1-3 in SEC play, has yet to affect recruiting, as third-year coach Mike Elko and his staff have, and will continue to benefit from strong relationships with all 26 of the program's 2027 commits, including five-star offensive tackle Mark Matthews, who is set to visit the Aggies this weekend when they host The Citadel.

In the 2028 cycle, five-star quarterback Donald Tabron and four-star edge rusher Chance Archangel are the Aggies' lone commits in their 2028 class, while the first three home games of the season served as key hosting opportunities, including blue-chip four-star cornerback Phoenix Evans, who visited the Aggies during their Week 2 home loss to Kentucky.

Losing at home in front of recruits is never good, but as I said above, relationships and NFL development matter most in today's chaotic college football landscape, especially with the recent news that the College Football Playoff format could expand to 24 teams.

Texas A&M's offense has been the primary issue this season, and defensive prospects know it, with Mike Elko's scheme and first-year defensive coordinator Lyle Hemphill taking over as the play-caller.

A New Jersey native, Phoenix Evans transferred to the prestigious IMG Academy in Florida, where A&M has successfully landed several former and current prospects, including 2027 five-star wide receiver Eric McFarland. Evans ranked the Aggies in his top 10 programs, alongside Florida, Oklahoma, Kentucky, Auburn, UCLA, Oregon, USC, Cal, and Florida State.
