But we may not have the 72-year-old British sex criminal to kick around much longer, according to media reports.
West’s health is now failing precipitously and she needs assistance to get around, with prison sources saying she is in a “really bad way and can now barely move.” A plan has also been established in the event she needs to be evacuated because of prison violence.
‘Does not have long left’
“People have been talking about how West is on her last legs and does not have long left because of her health,” the source said. “She cannot leave her wing and is also resigned to dying in jail.”
West and her husband Fred West were arrested in 1994 for the murders of 10 women and girls — including two of their own daughters. She was sentenced to life imprisonment in 1995 for the grisly slayings committed at their home at 25 Cromwell St. in Gloucester in southwest England.
Cops found a number of the victims buried on the property.
The fiendish femme fatale is currently being held at HMP New Hall, in Yorkshire. While caged, West faced disciplinary action for sexually assaulting a young female prisoner in her late teens.
As for the special arrangements, the source told The UK Sun: “It means they have to plot a safe escape route and that particular staff are assigned to help her if she is in danger. They also have to have equipment on hand, like a wheelchair, which they would move her in if they had to.”
Fred West killed himself in jail
Her husband and partner in crime Fred West, 53, killed himself in his jail cell in 1995 while awaiting trial.
Investigators believe that Fred West was also responsible for the murder of a former girlfriend and Catherine Costello, his first wife. The couple murdered their daughter Heather who was killed in June 1987 at the age of 16.
Her remains were buried beneath the patio of the family home following years of sexual, emotional and physical abuse. Charmaine, Fred West’s eight-year-old stepdaughter, was another of the couple’s victims.
The Wests’ crimes led to a major police investigation, with the property at 25 Cromwell St. becoming central to the case. The house was subsequently demolished.
A Prison Service spokesperson told The Sun: “Rose West’s crimes were horrific, and she will rightly spend the rest of her life behind bars.”
During the couple’s shocking trial, prosecutors painted a portrait of perversion of the pair as they acted as sexual predators in southwest England. Not just family members but other vulnerable young women. The horrors unfolded in the torture chamber in their basement.
Picked up hitchhikers for sex
Fred and Rose would pick up women and girls who were hitchhiking, then kidnap them and bring them to their lair.
There, they’d both rape and beat their victims, sometimes forcing them to have sex with other terrified young women. At least one sexual assault victim, Caroline Roberts, escaped, and several others have alleged that Fred and Rose attempted to follow and/or assault them as well.
The couple would then dismember their victims before burying them. In a macabre twist, the duo kept body parts like fingers, toes and kneecaps as trophies.
