Defence

Mike Penders will operate in between the sticks for Chelsea in the injury absence of Emiliano Martinez. Alonso could name a back three of Levi Colwill, Maxence Lacroix and Josh Acheampong for this game. Their main job would be to keep the opposition attackers frustrated throughout the game.

Wesley Fofana will offer cover for the defensive positions on the bench.

Midfield

Moises Caicedo and Jordan Henderson will play as the holding midfielders for the Blues as they look to dictate the tempo of the game from midfield.

Pedro Neto will be a nailed-on starter as the right-sided wide player, while Jorrel Hato hopes to give a good account of himself on the left flank. Both of them will need to make some overlapping runs out in the wide areas.

Morgan Rogers and Cole Palmer will operate as Alonso’s attacking midfielders as they try to carry most of the creative burden for Chelsea in the final third.

Geovany Quenda and Valentin Barco will be named on the bench as they await their chance to influence the game in the second half if required. However, Reece James remains sidelined for Chelsea due to a knee injury.

Attack

Joao Pedro will lead the charge for the home team up top. He has to figure out a way to be a real threat on the offensive end of the pitch.

Danny Welbeck will have to be content with a spot on the bench and might come on to make an impact in the latter stages of the contest if the Blues are in need of a goal by then.
