Shai Gilgeous-Alexander’s historic scoring run has finally come to an end, but the Oklahoma City Thunder still found a way to win. The 28-year-old scored 17 points in the Thunder’s 96-84 home win over the Denver Nuggets on Thursday night at Paycom Center.

That snapped his NBA-record streak of 141 straight regular-season games with at least 20 points. The run began on Nov. 1, 2024, early in the 2024-25 season, and stretched for nearly two full years, per Brett Siegel of ClutchPoints.

Gilgeous-Alexander also became a two-time MVP during that stretch, cementing his place among the league’s elite. He rewrote the record books along the way, tying Wilt Chamberlain’s longtime mark of 126 straight 20-point games on March 9, 2026, against these same Nuggets. He made that night even more memorable by hitting a game-winning 3-pointer in a 129-126 victory.

Three days later, the four-time NBA All-Star officially passed Chamberlain with his 127th straight game in a 104-102 win over the Boston Celtics.

Chamberlain’s streak had stood for more than six decades. It started on Oct. 19, 1961, and ended on Jan. 20, 1963, when he was ejected four minutes into a game against the St. Louis Hawks.

Gilgeous-Alexander then kept the run going for another 14 games, pushing the record to 141 before Thursday’s game against Denver. That number may be tough for anyone to touch for a long time, given how rare it is for a player to stay healthy and productive across that many games.

The two-time MVP opened the new season in typical fashion. He dropped 32 points in a 116-104 win over the San Antonio Spurs on Tuesday.

The streak was a reflection of how consistent SGA has been as one of the league’s most reliable scorers. Night after night, he found a way to reach 20 points regardless of the opponent or game situation.

Thursday’s game showed that the Thunder can still get it done when their superstar has an off night by his standards. Oklahoma City improved to 2-0 with the win over a Western Conference rival.

For Gilgeous-Alexander, the end of the streak is unlikely to slow him down. He will look to start a new run when the Thunder take the floor again, with plenty of the regular season still ahead. His 141-game mark now stands as the new benchmark.
