Brandon Valley, O"Gorman, Sioux Valley & Dakota Valley teams win title

RAPID CITY — Three championship streaks continued and one ended in the 2026 South Dakota State Competitive Cheer and Dance Championships on Friday and Saturday, Oct. 23-24.

Sioux Valley won the overall Class A cheer title for the 20th-straight year and Dakota Valley the overall Class A dance title for the 17-straight year on Friday, Oct. 23.

In the Class AA competition on Saturday, Oct. 24, Brandon Valley won the overall dance title for the sixth-straight year. O'Gorman ended Harrisburg's two-year run as state champion in cheer.

Watertown's squads finished seventh in both Class AA cheer and dance.

The Arrows were seventh out of 17 teams in cheer with an overall score of 265.5.

"The Arrows put together a solid, confident performance with zero deductions," Watertown cheer coach Malory Hoffmann said. "It was a great way to cap off the season and recognize all the hard work and dedication these athletes have put in throughout the year."

Watertown's dance team took third out of 10 teams in jazz with a 269.0 score and seventh out of 12 in pom with a 261.0 score.

"We are really excited about our third-place finish in jazz. The girls have worked so hard this season and definitely deserved this kind of recognition at state," Watertown dance coach Carolyn Fraher said. "The girls also performed great in pom. Even though we were hoping for a top-5 finish in both styles, we cannot be too upset because they did their best and gave awesome performances they should be proud of."

Aberdeen Central took 17th in Class AA cheer (183.0) and 12th overall in dance. The Golden Eagles finished sixth in pom (264.0) and ninth in hip hop (250.5).
