According to John Cena, after next week, the wait will be over, and the speculation will end as the 17-time world champion seems poised to finally explain the details of the much-talked-about ‘Never Seen’ Classic.

Announced on Monday and further hyped up by the man himself, John Cena will be making his return to WWE Raw for the first time since his retirement this past December. Cena, who was also announced for next Wednesday’s NXT (a show that just so happens to be going up against AEW due to WWE moving NXT off of Election Night on Tuesday), tweeted about his upcoming appearance, saying, “Make sure not to miss WWE Raw next week. First announced in May at WWE Backlash, the John Cena Classic news caught people off guard and came with a mixed response, fitting given the reactions Cena garnered throughout his WWE career. Cena described the tournament without much detail, simply saying it would take place in December, feature present and future stars, and include a voting element. That seemed to be the part that confused a lot of people, as the voting would allow fans to choose a ‘winner’ of a match even if they didn’t win. Essentially, making the tournament feel like a fan vote.

Cena has offered some additional details over the last few months when pressed, including that his tournament would be largely non-canonical to existing WWE storylines.

His most recent tweet with the language “the speculation ends” seems to suggest that Cena and WWE have figured out the specifics of this tournament and that they are ready to reveal those details to the fanbase. It seems that information such as the tournament’s timeline, possible wrestlers taking part, and most importantly, the rules and specifics on how the voting will work (anybody else feel like this will be a Club WWE exclusive?) will be unveiled on Monday.

We Might Get the Reveal of NXT Names on Wednesday

Cena is set for a busy week as, in addition to his appearance on Raw on Monday, he’ll be live for NXT on Wednesday. It seems like Cena’s presence there will be to either introduce the NXT competitors in this tournament or set up a tournament to qualify for the John Cena Classic. It should also give some wrestlers a chance to bump shoulders with the 17-time champion and perhaps cause a little chaos in the process.

Wednesday’s NXT is a big one as it will also feature the finals of the Dusty Rhodes Tag Team Classic, where Cody Rhodes will present the winners with the trophy bearing his father’s name.

Last Word on the John Cena Classic

Up until this point, the John Cena Classic has felt hypothetical, as in, WWE could change their minds at any point, pull the tournament, and hope fans wouldn’t even remember it existed in the first place. Well, come Monday, that hypothetical tournament becomes very real.

The John Cena Classic will certainly be interesting if nothing else. WWE has utilized voting elements before, but that was for match types at events such as Taboo Tuesday. They’ve never forayed into voting on match outcomes and who advances from a match, hence why Cena is calling this a never-before-seen tournament.

The voting is going to be both the most exciting and most controversial piece of this, and it begs many, hopefully soon-to-be-answered questions, such as: will there be guidelines for voting, or how much weight will the voting carry compared to the match outcomes?

There is still a lot to be determined. Given Cena is putting his name to this, though, it does inspire some confidence that this tournament will be successful. And while we don’t claim to be Liv Morgan or Dominik Mysterio, our judgment day will be Monday. Until then, we’ll reserve opinions on whatever Cena and WWE have cooked up for the John Cena Classic.
