Inside the AP Poll: Notre Dame-BYU, Alabama-Kentucky’s head-to-head results should matterIt’s always a bad look when teams are sitting side-by-side in the official poll in the opposite order of a game result.Ohio State:
The Buckeyes are coming off a bye in Week 8. Their last contest was a 19-15 road victory over then-No.5 Indiana on October 17. Ohio State starting quarterback Julian Sayin suffered an injury to his throwing arm in the win that will keep him sidelined for the foreseeable future.
“We’re not gonna put any timeline on his recovery, but he is out indefinitely,” head coach Ryan Day said. “What we’re trying to do is give Julian and his family the space and privacy to go through this process, but based on the nature of his injury, we are putting together a plan for him not being available for the regular season and then also him not being available for the postseason.”
Sayin ranked third in the FBS in passing yards (2,007) and touchdown passes (19) entering last week. Despite his absence, Ohio State remains heavily favored to make the College Football Playoff. The Buckeyes have five games remaining, with only one coming against a ranked opponent.
USC:
For the first time since October 19, 2025, USC is unranked in the AP Poll. The Trojans suffered a 24-7 road loss to Wisconsin last Saturday, marking the first time a team led by head coach Lincoln Riley has been held to single-digit scoring.
QB Jayden Maiava threw two interceptions, while the Trojans' defense gave up 142 yards on the ground.
USC is now 6-2 and will most likely have to win out to keep their College Football Playoff hopes alive. However, the road ahead won't be easy, as three of their final four games are against teams ranked in the top-10 of the AP Poll.
