Another week, another 4th quarter collapse.
And, as I surmised in the post-game recap, the Huskers are finding new and interesting ways to do it each time!
One thing I noticed, at least in the press box, is that 1) we’re now just fully waiting for it to happen and 2) it’s turning into Rodney Dangerfield’s Night at the Improv as the the gallows humor just flies as a new part of the forest catches fire. Or, as I overheard as Anthony Colandrea’s pick-6 unfolded on the second play after the Huskers took over with a solid chance to win or tie it, “Well, shit. Of course we are. Why not?”
But we’ve already relived the 17-10 Husker Halloween bucket full of candy corn and that toffee horseshit in the orange and black wrappers while the Huskies snacked on Kit Kat bites and Reese’s Peanut Butter Cups; why do it again?
We’re here to check the results of last week’s poll, which was basically was the Washington game going to be a turning point game or not with the choices being:
- Yes and we’re gonna win setting the tone for a big finish, at least 9 wins
- No, It’s not that huge, we can move on fine from a loss
- Yes, but we’re losing, and it’s lookin’ like 6-6
Let’s just say the majority was way off – but check out some of the polls from around the Big 10. We’re not alone.
- 91% felt like this was very much a turning point game, and we were going to grab a win and charge into the last four games a changed team.
- Only 7% felt like a loss was coming, but that crowd still considered the game a turning point and that turn may mean a 1-3 finish.
- Only 2% think we can can quickly flip to a business as usual mode moving forward – and the looks on the players faces might support that. Turning this into an “Us vs. the world” mindset could be a tough job this week with a quick turnaround to one of those Big 10 Friday games which 1) no one wants and 2) the conference’s protected darlings do not have to participate.
- Four of the top 6 are indeed QB’s (Mensah, Carr, Chambliss, Mestemaker) with Miami’s Darien Mensah currently leading the charge.
- But would he split some votes today with teammate WR Malachi Toney currently 3rd in the odds?
- 2nd place is Jeremiah Smith. IMHO, he is hands down the best player in the country. But can he overcome losing Julian Sayen (a finalist last season) and the effect it is already having on the team?
- Please, please redo this poll with only a Yes/No option to the question, “Would Beck’s job be in danger if Connor Stalions was feeding him the defensive calls?
- Please?
- Whoops! Sorry, folks, Choice 1 will not be an option this coming week.
- College football polls are a wonderful thing if you wait until Sunday to post and review them.
- Wisco, we may not much care for you, but ya’ gotta know we were pulling for you in that one.
