The worst came true for Jacksonville after seeing defensive tackle DaVon Hamilton carted off the field Sunday.

During Jacksonville’s lopsided 42-7 win over the Indianapolis Colts, Hamilton was carted off the field with a leg injury. That injury is now being reported as a torn quad which should keep Hamilton sidelined for the rest of the season.

It goes without saying how big, both physically and figuratively, Hamilton has been for Jacksonville along the defensive line. He’s the anchor for Jacksonville’s league best rush defense, which allows the fewest yards per carry in the league at 3.4 per. The Jags have allowed just one rush of over 20 yards, and are tied for the league lead in rushing first downs at just 30 all with Hamilton in the middle. Prior to his injury, Hamilton had a half sack and one forced fumble on the year as well as pitching in as the team’s emergency long snapper out in London.

The former Ohio State product is also in a contract year, with the Jags able to get out of his three-year contract starting at the end of the season if the injury potentially presents itself as something far worse.

Hamilton’s injury could now force the Jaguars now to make a move for a defensive tackle. Washington’s Daron Payne is off the board as he too is injured, but someone like New England’s Christian Barmore could be someone Jacksonville could pair alongside Arik Armstead during the team’s run at a Super Bowl.

Jacksonville did pick up Ruke Orhorhoro as insurance along the interior and he has played in all seven games. The team could also choose to slot Travon Walker more in the middle. The Jags did draft Albert Regis in the third round of this year’s draft, but he has been mostly inactive this year.
