The Philadelphia Eagles could be in for a long end to the 2026 season after injuries have seriously hindered their hopes of making it to the playoffs.

Nick Sirianni’s team lost again at the weekend against NFC East rivals the Washington Commanders. The Eagles are heading into Week Nine at the bottom of their division with a 2-6 record. Any hopes of their season being saved are now extremely slim.

With Jalen Hurts watching the remainder of the year from home following his serious health scare, there is very little for the fans to get excited about. Given the expectations on the Eagles are now so little, Shannon Sharpe is already urging Howie Roseman to cut one of his players ahead of the offseason.

Shannon Sharpe urges the Philadelphia Eagles to cut Riq Woolen

Riq Woolen played down trade rumours just last week after speaking to the media in Philadelphia. Sharpe, however, is urging Philly to just get rid of the cornerback, who they acquired earlier this year after Woolen left the Seattle Seahawks.

“I don’t really like to say this: I would cut Tariq Woolen,” Sharpe said on Nightcap.

“You watch him. Every game, what happens? Holding calls, gets beat. What am I getting out of him, Ocho? He just wastes a roster spot. You mean to tell me I can’t find somebody else that I can move forward with?

“They’re not re-signing him after this year. You know that, I know that. I told you in the middle of the season. I said, “He gone. They’re not gonna sign him.” Too many mistakes. Hothead. Costly penalties like they cost him last year. Remember the playoff game? You remember the playoff game, don’t you? Yeah, you remember.”

Seahawks fans will know exactly what Sharpe means with this after his taunting penalty almost cost Seattle in their NFC Championship game against the Los Angeles Rams. After being penalised for taunting, Woolen gave up a touchdown on the literal next play.

“And I told you during the season, he makes dumb plays. He doesn’t think. All he thinks about is that moment; he doesn’t look at the big picture. He doesn’t think, “Man, if I get a 15-yard penalty, this might kill our momentum and give them momentum.” He doesn’t think like that,” Sharpe added.
