Jose Mourinho made restoring Jude Bellingham to his best level a priority after taking charge of Real Madrid, and the midfielder’s performances are beginning to reflect that work.

According to AS, the Portuguese coach arrived with an ‘obsession’ of bringing back the Englishman’s best form after two seasons in which his level had dropped.

As such, Bellingham has responded with five goals and three assists this season, giving him eight goal contributions already.

Notably, he managed 13 goals and assists combined throughout the previous campaign.

Bellingham explains what has changed under Mourinho

Bellingham, who produced a Man of the Match display against AEK Athens in the Champions League, believes greater concentration has been central to his improvement.

Speaking after the victory, Bellingham explained how he has been approaching his performances.

“Yes, I’m definitely playing with more focus. It’s going well and I’m improving my game and making an impact in many ways. I hope to keep it up.”

Real Madrid midfielder reaches 50-goal milestone

Bellingham’s attacking output has been a defining feature of his time in Madrid.

He recently scored his 50th goal for the club during the 3-0 victory over Racing Santander, reaching the landmark in 154 appearances.

The England international became the 50th player in Real Madrid history to score 50 goals.

He also moved beyond Zinedine Zidane’s tally of 49 goals, reaching the figure in considerably fewer appearances.

His appearance against AEK also brought a significant Champions League achievement.

At 23 years and 128 days, Bellingham became the youngest player in the competition’s history to reach 60 appearances, surpassing Iker Casillas, who achieved the milestone at 23 years and 167 days.

The record is particularly notable given that Bellingham began his Champions League career with Borussia Dortmund before continuing it at Real Madrid.

He has now overtaken one of the club’s greatest goalkeepers in another age-related European milestone.

Simply put, if Mourinho’s priority was to restore Bellingham’s influence, the midfielder’s latest performances show that the manager has indeed succeeded.
