BC Partners quietly renews push to save LIV Golf ahead of 2027, per report

LIV Golf is dead. Or is it?

BC Partners, the private-equity firm that last week pulled its offer of $300 million after not receiving enough player commitments to fund LIV 2.0, is still willing to invest money and time to establish a LIV successor, the Financial Times reported Sunday.

BC Partners is hoping to acquire a $50 million bankruptcy loan from the PIF, which is controlling the LIV Golf Chapter 11 bankruptcy process. The latest deal would help BC revive LIV for the 2027 season, even if the schedule and overall league is thinner than originally planned, the report states.

The Financial Times reported it's unsure whether LIV or the PIF were aware of the idea or would even be receptive to it.

In a statement, LIV Golf said the company will remain open to, and continue to consider, any value-maximizing alternatives with third parties that may arise, even as it winds down operations.

BC Partners released a public statement Thursday, saying, "While there was great support for the league, we are disappointed that mutually acceptable terms could not be reached among the various stakeholders. We commend LIV Golf’s management for their tireless efforts and thank the players who supported the future of LIV and engaged constructively throughout.

"We wish them every success as they continue their careers."

BC Partners latest plan, per reports, would have the PIF contribute millions to settle claims with vendors. If PIF were to sell the loan to BC Partners, it would officially close its relationship with the league it put nearly $6 billion into since 2022.

The report states BC Partners believes it still has numerous players interested in a league. Up to 40 players expressed interest in LIV 2.0, but some of them made demands BC Partners could not meet. Some of those include asking BC Partners to pay previous financial promises that were canceled during the bankruptcy process, as well as allowing them to back out a deal, even if they signed commitments.

LIV Golf was pulled off life support Thursday. But now, it seems as if BC Partners has not given up on trying to revive the league.
