Ultimate Fighting Championship (UFC) women’s Flyweight rivals Alexa Grasso vs. Maycee Barber will throw down this weekend (Sat., March 28, 2026) inside Climate Pledge Arena in Seattle, Washington for UFC Seattle.

Times have been tough for former champion Grasso, who hasn’t actually won a fight since her May 2023 upset strangle of Valentina Shevchenko. Of course, in the nearly three years since, she’s fought “Bullet” two more times and the top rising talent in the division, Natalia Silva, so it’s not like she’s losing to scrubs! Still, Grasso very much needs to rebound if she’s going to remain a player in the title mix.

As for Barber, her February 2021 defeat to Grasso is actually her most recent loss! She’s won seven bouts since then, working her way back to the title picture after a couple early career speed bumps. At just 27 years of age, Barber is one of the division’s more promising up-and-comers, and this is her opportunity to demonstrate five years of growth and improvement against an old foe.

Let’s take a closer look at the betting odds and strategic keys for each athlete:

How Grasso Wins

Grasso’s boxing and range control are her best aspects. She puts together clean combinations and remains in position to fire, which makes her sharper in the pocket than most of her peers. She has solid power behind her right hand, and Grasso’s wrestling has come a long way since leaving Strawweight years ago.

In the first fight, Grasso’s boxing dictated the first two rounds. Because of her footwork, she was able to draw offense from Barber, make her miss, and then stick her with straight punches. Generally, the same strategy should apply here, as Grasso is still the crisper puncher.

Where did Grasso have trouble in the first fight? By round three, Barber was able to control more of the fight along the fence and on the canvas, and she was able to start building offense as a result. It was too late to win the decision, but Grasso has to be ready for a more committed fence attack in this rematch. Again, it comes back to footwork, as Grasso will have to be evasive without running from the pocket entirely.

It’s a thin line to walk, but that’s the task the former champion faces.

How Barber Wins

Unlike the vast majority of her peers, Barber throws with absolutely nasty intentions. She’s hurt her opponents at distance with high kicks, in the clinch with short punches, and on the canvas with thudding elbows. Really, she’s one of very few fighters — male or female — who throws ground strikes with the intention of ending the contest. She’s not finishing all her opposition by any means, but Barber beats her opponents up.

Since the first fight, Barber has refined her approach quite a bit and seems to really understand how she wins fights. She’s developed her range offense well — see above! — but still pursues the clinch and takedowns intentionally. Previously, Barber would spend a lot of time trying to brawl but failing to account for the proper distance, meaning her physicality went unutilized.

Against Grasso, Barber has to put it all together. Her improved kicks and distance work should be used to cut off the cage and allow her to find the clinch more consistently. Once there, Barber can aim to rough her opponent up with knees and elbows, as well as hunt for trips and throws that could really put her in position to do major damage.

Grasso vs. Barber 2 Prediction

Both women have improved since the first fight, but Barber’s growth feels more relevant to the matchup. In fact, you could point to that third round rally versus Grasso as the turning point in her career even if it was ultimately a losing effort. Since then, she’s been able to consistently move fights into her areas of strength, and the result is a massive win streak!

Grasso, conversely, is guilty of letting the flow of the fight pull her from her strengths. She’s really going to have to plant her feet and sting Barber to deter her pressure, and I’m not sure Grasso can pull that off without getting clubbed herself.
