Even after leaving his post, Helmut Marko has maintained a regular line of communication with Red Bull and their drivers throughout this season.

Since stepping away from Formula 1, Marko has largely kept out of the spotlight, only offering comments when specifically asked by the media.

Laurent Mekies’ approach to managing Isack Hadjar has drawn praise for delivering results. The young driver has shown real growth under the new setup.

Liam Lawson also appears to be in better form since Marko’s departure. Still, it’s clear that Marko hasn’t fully stepped away from the scene.

Laurent Mekies says Helmut Marko still keeping in touch with Red Bull

During an appearance on the Beyond the Grid podcast, Laurent Mekies spoke about how Marko has remained a presence within Red Bull despite his departure.

Mekies pointed out that Marko is still very much in touch with members of the team, and keeps in regular contact with the drivers.

“I’m pretty sure they’re still talking. Maybe not at 7am, but maybe a bit later in the day. Helmut has remained very open and available to us,” he said.

“I am sure we’re all having chats with him and getting his guidance from him even though you don’t see him turning up at the race track…”

“You can’t turn the page of Helmut that he has been building this young driver program for two decades with incredible success.”

“You don’t turn that page quickly. So we are living on his legacy right now. And as I said he’s behind the corners if we need him.”

Red Bull hopes to stabilise as leadership changes take hold

In the past two years, Red Bull have parted ways with Helmut Marko, Christian Horner, Jonathan Wheatley and Adrian Newey, four key figures from one of the team’s most successful stretches.

This has led to a number of promotions within the organisation as Red Bull looks to rebuild towards another period of dominance.

The new regulations haven’t helped their cause. Red Bull are trailing behind rivals so far this year, and several members of the team are facing more pressure than ever.

The break in the calendar is hoped to give Red Bull a chance to address some car issues and try to improve their form before heading into Miami for round six of the season.
