Tahlequah track sets school records en route to qualifying for State

Heading into the State Tournament, Tahlequah track is on a high note.

At the Owasso Regional, the Lady Tigers took the title of Regional Champion, Saturday, May 9.

In addition to taking the title, the Lady Tigers’ sprint relays continued a dominant season.

The 4x100, 4x200 and 4x400 set new records en route to clinching a spot at the State Finals.

After setting school records at the Metro Lakes Conference in the 4x100 and 4x200, the team of Lakyn Adams, Riley Dotson, Kiyah Edwards and Khloe Edwards toppled both in just one week.

In the 4x100, the Lady Tigers went from a 48-second race to a 47-second race with an official time of 47.90. In the 4x200 relay, the team put up a time of 1:40.21.

The 4x400 that set a new school record was made up of Frazier, Adams, Dotson and Moe Wilson. The team set a record with a time of 4:04.80.

Overall, the relays had a strong day for the Lady Tigers, with the 4x800 finishing third place with a time of 10:15.81 from the team of Libby Baker, Jordan Dotson, Ava Oxford and Emberleigh Justice.

The Lady Tigers also had the Regional Champion in the shot put, with Ariana Tomasikrucker taking the win with a 35-foot, 5-inch throw.

In individual events, the Lady Tigers were littered around the top finishers.

Edwards finished fourth in the 100m dash with a time of 12.44 and took fifth in the 200m with a run of 25.57.

Adams had a strong day in the 400m dash with a second-place finish with a time of 58.47. Dotson took fourth in the same race with a time of 59.79.

Dynashia Bailey had a standout day in both the 100m and 300m hurdles, taking second in both. In the 100m, Bailey had a 16.67 finish and in the 300m, with a 50.23 race.

The Lady Tigers had four in the top 10 in the high jump, with Brynn Fowler’s third-place, 5-foot jump.

Both Addysn Hudgins and Allie Hayes had jumps of 4-feet 8 inches, taking seventh and eighth.

Keirakate McKinnes took fourth in the pole vault with a 9-foot jump.

Ella Whisenhunt took sixth in the discus with a throw of 99 feet, 9 inches. Avery Gifford took sixth in the shot put with a throw of 29 feet, 6.75 inches.

The Tiger boys’ track team had a handful of athletes qualify for the State Tournament.

Jagger Valdez took the Regional Title in the 300m hurdle with a race of 39.69. Valdez also took fourth in the 110m hurdles with a race of 16.03.

Eli Batey took second in the 800m with a finish of 2:01.11. Taven Neal scored fourth in the 400m race with a time of 51.64.

The 4x800 relay team of Kaden Turner, Duke Dobbins, Maxx Rogers and Batie came in second with a time of 8:15.92.

Jaxon Proctor’s jump of 12 feel, 6 inches won him third in the pole vault.

The Tigers had three players finish in the top six of the shot put standings.

Blayn Justice came in second with a 49-foot, 7-inch throw. Bradley Schnitzer’s 45-foot, 5-inch throw took fifth place and Wyatt Stephens took fifth with a 45-foot, 5-inch throw.

The Tigers also had three finish in the top 15 in the discus. Justice took third with a 140-foot, 9-inch throw; Kyndryk Carey’s 128-foot throw got eighth place; and Canaan Rose’s 112-foot, 7-inch throw took 13th.

The State Tournament starts Friday, May 15, at Western Heights High School. The finals are set for Saturday, May 16.
