The Rangers tried to fight their way to a win, but ultimately fell short for their third loss in their last four games. What happened?

An Early Hole

After the Rangers went down in 1-2-3 fashion in the top of the first inning, the Rockies wasted no time in gaining the advantage.

The bottom of the first began with Rangers left-hander MacKenzie Gore giving up a double and consecutive walks to load the bases before finally notching a strikeout, but it would only stop the bleeding briefly.

Gore gave up another double that scored two runs for Colorado and another single before finally getting out of the inning.

A Quick Response, A Big Blow

The Rangers did not stay scoreless for long as second baseman Justin Foscue got his big night started with an RBI double to make it a 2-1 game in the top of the second.

Yet, they ended up finding themselves falling further behind.

The Rockies notched a pair of runs in the third and fourth innings to make it a 6-1 game, leaving Texas with an uphill battle.

Late Rally Falls Short

The Rangers seemed to be on the cusp of a comeback, but it could not be completed.

After scoring in the top of the fifth and sixth innings thanks to a solo home run and another RBI double by Foscue, Texas cut Colorado’s lead to 6-3. However, the Rockies answered with another run of their own in the bottom of the sixth inning, and that one run would make all the difference in the end.

The Rangers made one last push in the eighth inning by scoring three unanswered runs to make it a one-run game at 7-6. But, when the ninth inning provided one last chance to tie or win, they could only muster a single.

Foscue’s Night Wasted

Time and time again, Foscue had an answer for his team, only for it to be futile by the end of the game.

The 27-year-old has struggled at the plate in his limited appearances this season, but he turned into a star on Monday by going 3-for-3 with three RBIs and a walk. Before facing the Rockies, Foscue was just 4-for-22 through nine games, and it is hard to say if he will be able to replicate a performance quite like that.

Texas will try to respond when it faces Colorado for the second game of the series on Tuesday at 7:40 p.m. CT.
