Unfortunately, some players on the New York Yankees just don't have that much of a place to play.
That's the situation for utility man Oswaldo Cabrera, who finds himself in one of the more interesting positions on the roster.
There have been times over the past four years when Cabrera looked to be a nice little player for the Yankees, but the harsh reality right now is that he isn't going to get back to what he was in 2023 and 2024 prior to his injury in 2025 because the Yankees just don't have a lot of room for him to play.
Others believe that he's going to be traded at the deadline, and there's one team that makes a lot of sense for him: the Cincinnati Reds.
“There will, of course, be talk of Jasson Domínguez or Spencer Jones as possible trade chips. But when and where does Cabrera fit back into the mix in the Bronx? José Caballero has been great, Ryan McMahon isn't going anywhere, Amed Rosario has been a more than adequate utilityman and they're going to bring Anthony Volpe back eventually. If they can swap Cabrera for a bullpen arm, they'll probably do it,” Kerry Miller of BR wrote.
Cincinnati fans are definitely looking for a bit better of a player than Cabrera, but at 24-23 and five games behind, sitting in last place in the National League Central, they might decide to go with a young utility guy who can come in and make a decent impact.
Cabrera proved during his time with the Yankees at the big league level that he can be a decent player, hitting .247 with the ability to handle multiple positions in the infield.
