New York Yankees veteran Paul Goldschmidt, 38 years old, certainly isn't what he used to be. There was once a time when Goldschmidt was considered one of the best players in Major League Baseball, and that was evident just a few seasons ago when he won the National League MVP award.
Fast forward to 2026, and the Delaware native definitely has slowed down, but he's still a well-respected veteran, and that's why he's still around the league playing for a contending team like the Yankees.
Goldschmidt also has some personal things to strive for throughout the back end of his career. There's probably even a strong argument to be made that Goldschmidt will be a Hall of Famer, though it's not a guarantee.
Whether he is or isn't, he's done things that a lot of other Hall of Famers have done throughout his career, including tying Jeff Kent with the 79th-most home runs in Major League Baseball history with 377 on Monday night against the Toronto Blue Jays.
“Paul Goldschmidt hit his 377th career HR, passing Hall of Famer Carlton Fisk and moved into a tie with Norm Cash and Hall of Famer Jeff Kent for 79th on the All Time HR list,” RobBballHistory wrote.
When we factor in that Goldschmidt is really only a platoon bat at this stage of his career, it's rather impressive that he already has five home runs in 69 at-bats.
It isn't like he's seeing big league pitching every single day, so for him to come out and swing the bat at a relatively high level, hitting .290 on the year with those five home runs, really goes to show how good he is and the type of career he's put together. This was another impressive feat for the first baseman.
