Baltimore Ravens tight-end Mark Andrews saw a decrease in pass targets, receptions, and touchdowns in 2024. While some may deem Andrews as a player in decline at age 30, new offensive coordinator Declan Doyle will deploy new designs that almost assuredly will grant Andrews advantages versus smaller defenders.

We've all heard the plan, including Doyle's desire to use more three-wide receiver sets and 11-personnel groups. If so, opposing defenses will be forced to adopt Nickel and Dime packages and account for the speed of the Ravens' skill players. Andrews is thus too big to be covered by defensive backs and too nifty to be inhibited by the average linebacker. Furthermore, defensive coordinators will have to pick their poison versus the Ravens in the passing game. If the opposing elite linebacker is assigned to work as a QB spy for quarterback Lamar Jackson, this will afford Andrews the opportunity to operate versus man coverage on intermediate routes in the passing game.
Andrews went from posting 11 touchdowns in 2024 to just 5 in 2025, which deeply affected the team's offense. Doyle's quest for effectiveness far exceeds his desire to divert into subjective idealism the way his predecessor, Todd Monken, did. Instead, Doyle wants Andrews operating in a role that gives him an objective, not as a decoy for aimless misdirection plays that increase the probability of losing yardage.
Andrews is an excellent run-blocker, and his zeal to play physical will only be edified if he sees himself playing a sequential role in each offensive drive. 26 NFL tight ends had more receiving yards than Andrews last season, and fourteen other tight ends had more touchdowns. While some critics may believe these statistics suggest Andrews' decline, Doyle's implementation should yield improvement for Andrews in the team's offense this upcoming NFL season.
