To further separate themselves from the competition, it wouldn't be a surprise if the Mariners went out and spent a little bit at the MLB trade deadline to improve the roster. A right-handed slugger and maybe some more bullpen help would make a lot of sense.
However, according to USA Today's Bob Nightengale, the Mariners aren't expected to make any "ultra-aggressive" trades at this year's deadline, aiming for a tame deadline that is not very fun news for the fanbase.
Mariners expected not to be 'ultra-aggressive' at MLB trade deadline
"The Seattle Mariners aren't expected to be ultra-aggressive at the trade deadline as in the past, hoping simply that Cal Raleigh, Julio Rodriguez, Josh Naylor and Randy Arozarena dramatically improve after their first-half struggles, with their overall defense ranking last in outs above average (negative-25)," Nightengale writes.
While the Mariners could be aggressive at the deadline based on their chance to win the World Series this year being fairly high in a wide-open American League, this report from Nightengale indicates Seattle won't make such a decision.
This report doesn't mean the Mariners won't look to add to the roster this summer, but it does likely indicate that any blockbuster move is off the table.
Instead, they're apparently hoping for Cal Raleigh, Randy Arozarena, Julio Rodriguez, and Josh Naylor to turn things around.

If the starting rotation can stay elite, the bullpen can figure things out a bit, and the lineup can start reaching its potential, the Mariners won't need to make any deadline moves to have a chance at the World Series.
But that doesn't take away from how the fans would likely be a little disappointed. Adding anything at the trade deadline would be exciting, just as they did with Naylor and Eugenio Suarez last season.
However, Mariners fans should be prepared for their favorite team to have a quiet deadline, as this front office seemingly believes in the current roster and will bank on their turnaround to act as the mid-season upgrade in 2026.
