Who will Brazil play next?

Next up for Brazil is a Round of 16 meeting with Norway.

The Selecao take on Stale Solbakken's side at New York New Jersey Stadium on Sunday, July 5, with kickoff scheduled for 4 p.m. ET (9 p.m. BST).

Norway reached this stage by defeating Ivory Coast 2-1 in the Round of 32, with Erling Haaland giving Brazil an obvious danger to contain.

If they progress past Norway, Brazil will face the winner of the Round of 16 game between Mexico and England. That match will take place in Miami on July 11.

How does the World Cup bracket work?

The Round of 16 is the second stage of the knockout rounds, where every match is single elimination.

There are no points or league standings from this stage onwards — only a winner and a loser.

What happens if knockout matches finish tied?

Every knockout match must produce a winner. If the scores are level after 90 minutes, the game goes to 30 minutes of extra time.

Should the teams remain tied after extra time, the winner is decided by a penalty shootout.

The Round of 16 fixtures are determined once the group stage concludes, with the knockout bracket fixed for the remainder of the tournament. From the Round of 32 onwards, every remaining team knows its potential route to the World Cup final.
