From Super Bowl to World Cup: The major sporting events Trump has attended in his 2nd term

President Donald Trump has prioritized attending huge sporting events during his second term.

On Sunday, Trump will become the first U.S. president to attend a men’s World Cup final when Argentina and Spain face off in one of the year’s most anticipated sporting events. His appearance marks just the latest sporting event he will attend since returning to office in January 2025.

Here’s the list of other major sporting events he has attended since returning to office.

Super Bowl LIX

Trump became the first sitting U.S. president to attend a Super Bowl during on Feb. 9, 2025 in New Orleans. The game came about a month after a New Year’s Day terrorist attack in the city killed 14 people and injured dozens more. Trump met with families of the victims before the game.

Trump left the game about 10 minutes into the second half—which left pundits speculating that he left early because his desired team, the Kansas City Chiefs, was losing.

UFC fights

Trump, who is close with UFC President Dana White, has attended multiple fights during his second term in office. He was met with cheers when he attended a fight at the Kaseya Center in Miami alongside Secretary of State Marco Rubio in April 2025. He later attended a UFC match with Rubio at the Prudential Center in Newark, New Jersey in June 2025.

Trump reaffirmed his love for the UFC after he recently hosted a fight on the South Lawn of the White House on June 14 to celebrate America’s 250th anniversary.

Daytona 500

Trump attended the 2025 Daytona 500 just weeks after going to Super Bowl LIX. He had also attended the popular race in 2020 during his first term in office. His appearance was marked by his motorcade taking a lap around the Daytona International Speedway.

FIFA Club World Cup final

Trump’s appearance at the World Cup final on Sunday is not the first time he attended a FIFA event. Last year, Trump was mocked after he awkwardly joined in on Chelsea FC’s FIFA Club World Cup celebration.

Chelsea winger Cole Palmer later said he did not realize Trump would be on the stage as his team lifted up their trophy.

“I knew he was going to be there, but I didn’t know he was going [to] be on the stand where we lift the trophy. So, I was a bit confused,” said Palmer, via USA TODAY.

U.S. Open men’s tennis final

Trump faced widespread criticism after his attendance at the U.S. Open men’s tennis final snarled security lines, which delayed fans getting into the USTA Billie Jean King National Tennis Center in September 2025.

The 2025 match between world No. 1 Jannik Sinner and No. 2 Carlos Alcaraz started about 30 minutes late as a result of enhanced security measures. Trump also faced backlash after it was reported that US Open officials sent an email to broadcasters asking them to censor any negative reactions to his presence.

Game 3 of the NBA Finals

Trump made waves after fans blamed the president for “cursing” the New York Knicks with his attendance at Game 3 of the NBA Finals at Madison Square Garden.

The NYPD and the Secret Service cancelled the popular watch party outside the world’s most famous arena, leaving die-hard fans outraged. Fans were also prohibited from bringing bags inside the arena, and were told to expect enhanced security measures before entering the game.

Trump was also met with boos as he was shown on screen before tip-off.

The Knicks ended up breaking their 13-game winning streak in Game 3, making it their only loss in the best-of-seven matchup with the San Antonio Spurs.
