CBS Sports has released their annual hot seat ratings and rankings for all of the FBS head coaches, and to no surprise, the newly hired Fitzgerald is sitting on a very cool seat at the moment. On a rating system of zero through five, Fitzgerald landed with a 0.7 rating -- which is considered "untouchable" at the moment.
Fitzgerald is set to enter his first season as the Spartans head coach after taking over for Jonathan Smith, who was fired after only two years at Michigan State. The man who hired Fitzgerald, though, is no longer around as former athletic director J Batt is now off to Kentucky after only one year of running the Spartans' athletics department. So it's interesting to see Fitzgerald have such a low hot seat rating among his peers.
For some perspective, new Michigan head coach Kyle Whittingham has a rating of 1.5 -- which is notably higher than Fitzgerald. One would assume that would be higher due to the Wolverines having higher expectations to win big this year compared to the Spartans.
