Elijah Moore channels Jalen Hurts when asked about A.J. Brown

Elijah Moore borrowed a move from Jalen Hurts before making it clear that his focus is on the Philadelphia Eagles.

Following Day 7 of training camp, Moore was asked about former college teammate and close friend A.J. Brown. The new Eagles wide receiver paused and took a sip of water before answering, recreating the moment Hurts produced during the spring while fielding a question about Brown’s uncertain future in Philadelphia.

Moore’s response left little room for a follow-up.

“I don’t want to be disrespectful,” Moore said. “I think A.J. plays for the Patriots now, and I don’t want to make anything more than what it is. I play for the Eagles.”

Moore and Brown were teammates at Ole Miss and have maintained a friendship since entering the NFL. That relationship, however, didn’t convince Moore to discuss Brown’s departure or create another headline involving his former college teammate. Brown was traded to New England during the offseason after four seasons in Philadelphia. Moore signed with the Eagles and joined a rebuilt receiver room led by DeVonta Smith.

The sip of water added some humor to the exchange because Hurts made a similar move in May. When asked what a potential Brown trade would mean for him and the Eagles, Philadelphia’s quarterback paused to drink before joking that the reporter had “picked the right question to sip on.”

Moore didn’t make the same joke, but the message was just as clear.

His friendship with Brown doesn’t change his responsibility to the Eagles. Moore is competing for a role in Sean Mannion’s offense and trying to establish himself with Hurts during his first training camp in Philadelphia.

The Eagles and Patriots will hold joint practices in Foxborough on Aug. 19 and 20, creating an eventual reunion between Brown and several former teammates. There will be plenty of opportunities to discuss that matchup.

Moore wasn’t interested in starting the conversation early. Brown plays for New England, Moore plays for Philadelphia, and that was all he wanted to say.
