'Radio voice' of the Mariners Rick Rizzs to be inducted into team Hall of Fame

Rick Rizzs, the iconic voice of the M's, will join legends like Ken Griffey Jr., Randy Johnson and Ichiro Suzuki as a member of the Mariners Hall of Fame, team leadership announced Saturday.
Mariners CEO and chairman John Stanton made the announcement during the M's 50th-season celebration. Rizzs has been there nearly all the way — he's spent 41 seasons as the M's caller — and his impact is felt on all levels of the organization, Stanton said.

"For most of the past two decades, Rick has been the Voice of the Mariners, with his energy, iconic calls, and love for our team and this community shining through every call he makes, and every interaction he has with a player, fan, or listener,” said Stanton.
According to witnesses at the event, Rizzs was emotional after the announcement. The Mariners are "one of the greatest ballclubs in the history of baseball," he said.
"It’s amazing to be associated with these fine gentlemen right here to my left and to my right. What a great privilege this has been for 41 years," Rizzs said.
In his speech, Rizzs recalled learning the art of broadcasting under Dave Niehaus, a fellow M's broadcaster and the only other non-player member of the Mariners Hall of Fame.
Rizzs first joined the M's in 1983, calling play-by-play coverage alongside Niehaus, before moving to the Detroit Tigers for a stint. Rizzs returned to Seattle and has been a Mariner ever since. He announced his intent to retire after the 2026 season in January.
