The Miami Heat made their roster significantly better this summer when they traded for superstar Giannis Antetokounmpo. The Heat became one of the favorites in the Eastern Conference with the move, but they continue to look for ways to improve the roster.

Miami is exploring potential additions with a few roster spots still available. For some time now, the Heat have had interest in Klay Thompson.
“Dallas Mavericks guard Klay Thompson, a five-time All Star and the fourth-most prolific three-point shooter in NBA history, has emerged as a player of strong interest to the Miami Heat, multiple sources said in recent days. The Heat has interest in adding Thompson whether LeBron James joins the Heat or not, a source said,” Miami Herald’s Barry Jackson wrote.
The Dallas Mavericks are still deciding between trading Thompson and agreeing to a buyout. Thompson has been linked to both the Miami Heat and Los Angeles Lakers.
“My understanding is that Thompson would welcome a return to Los Angeles, where he spent part of his childhood and still owns a home. The Miami Heat are another team frequently mentioned in NBA circles as a potential landing spot for the future Hall of Famer," The Athletic's Christian Clark wrote.
However, it is the Heat who are currently considered the favorites to land Thompson.
“The Heat are the favorites to acquire Klay Thompson, if he secures a buyout from the Mavericks. Miami can offer Thompson significantly more financially on a 1-year deal compared to the Lakers. Klay would also become an immediate starter in Miami alongside Giannis Antetokounmpo,” NBA reporter Evan Sidery wrote.
Miami landing Thompson through a trade or on the buyout market would be huge for the organization, especially because the Heat are in desperate need of shooting. The four-time NBA champion would immediately fill that major need.
Thompson has made $298 million in contracts throughout his career. The Heat already have a strong offense, but adding a generational shooter to the mix could make them even more dangerous.
