Western Railway Secondary School (English Medium), Valsad, one of the oldest educational institutions under Western Railway, continues to carry forward its rich legacy of providing quality education while steadily adopting modern teaching practices and infrastructure. Established in 1919 as the Railway Anglo Indian Study Centre, Bulsar, in a modest three-room building, the institution has grown over the years into a well-established school imparting education from Jr. KG to Class X.

According to a press release issued by Vineet Abhishek, Chief Public Relations Officer of Western Railway, the school presently has 394 students, comprising 287 Railway wards and 107 non-Railway wards, and is supported by a team of 18 teachers. The school was upgraded to Secondary level in 1992 and renamed Railway Secondary School (English Medium), Valsad. Subsequently from April 2015 it switched over to the Central Board of Secondary Education (CBSE) curriculum. As part of the implementation of the National Education Policy, Jr. KG classes were introduced in 2024.
The school has maintained an impressive record of 100% results in the Class X Board examinations for five consecutive academic sessions from 2021-22 to 2025-26. In the academic session 2025-26, 22 students participated in certificate courses under the IIT Madras School Connect Programme and all successfully completed the courses, with 3 students securing a perfect score of 100/100.
The school provides a technology-enabled learning environment with Interactive Smart Boards in classrooms, a well-equipped computer laboratory with 30 computers, a Composite Science Laboratory, a library having more than 1,700 books, internet facilities and CCTV surveillance. Various programmes are also organised for developing life skills, leadership, effective communication, digital and financial literacy, career awareness, entrepreneurship and the overall personality of students. Teachers regularly participate in training programmes organised by CBSE and other educational institutions.
Students of the school have also excelled in Scouts & Guides, sports and co-curricular activities. As many as 43 students have completed Dwitiya Sopan, 13 have completed Tritiya Sopan and four students have received Rajya Puraskar. Students have represented the school at State and National levels in Karate, Boxing and other sporting events, besides securing notable positions in Discus Throw and athletics. The school also actively organises and participates in cleanliness drives, tree plantation, disaster management, health and cancer awareness programmes, cultural activities, debates, quizzes, rallies, Nukkad Natak and various national awareness campaigns.
As part of its continuing development, a new building is being developed for Higher Secondary classes, with provisions for Physics, Chemistry and Biology laboratories, classrooms and an assembly hall. The school is proposed to be expanded to the Higher Secondary level, with all three streams, in line with the growing educational needs and aspirations of students and the community. The development is aimed at facilitating the school’s progressive expansion towards the Higher Secondary level in keeping with the growing educational requirements of students.
