South Dakota Prep Media football polls for Aug. 31: Class 11AAA rankings shuffle after one week

Aug. 31—SIOUX FALLS — The first class to turn over the No. 1 spot in the South Dakota Prep Media football polls is the state's biggest.
By virtue of then-No. 5 O'Gorman's win over previous No. 1 Sioux Falls Lincoln 42-35, Brandon Valley has moved up from No. 2 to No. 1 in this week's Class 11AAA rankings, released on Monday, Aug. 31.

The Lynx had 13 of the poll's 19 first-place votes this week, while Sioux Falls Jefferson is No. 2 and got four first-place selections. Brandon Valley won 10-7 at Bellevue West (Neb.) on Friday night, while Jefferson was a 43-20 winner on Friday over then-No. 4 Harrisburg.
The Knights are slotted third this week and got two first-place votes, with Lincoln ranked at No. 4 and Sioux Falls Washington ranked No. 5 after a 28-0 win over Rapid City Central on Friday.
That sets up a matchup of No. 3 O'Gorman at No. 1 Brandon Valley at 6 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 5, in the Lynx's annual Pigskin Classic game in what is Class 11AAA's game of the week.
* In Class 11AA, Yankton and Tea Area each moved up one spot to No. 2 and No. 3 respectively, after Tea Area defeated former No. 2 Huron last week. Watertown moved into No. 4 after knocking off Spearfish and Huron remained ranked at No. 5.
* After last week's No. 1 vs. No. 2 and No. 3 vs. No. 5 matchups in Class 11A, Lennox dropped to No. 4 and Madison stayed at No. 5. The winners of those games, Sioux Falls Christian and Dell Rapids are at No. 1 and No. 2, respectively.
* Clark/Willow Lake moved into the No. 5 position in the Class 11B rankings after a 2-0 start to the season, defeating previously ranked Sioux Valley.
* In Class 9A, Lyman and Centerville are both ranked after 2-0 starts. The Raiders are at No. 4 after receiving votes last week and Centerville is No. 5 after not being considered.
* There were no changes in the Class 9B rankings this week.
