Not Pryor. Not Rejoice Christian. Not Wesleyan Christian.
And not even Skiatook after three separate opportunities.
The Lady Mustangs survived a tournament filled with tight matches to finish a perfect 6-0 and capture the Oologah Invitational championship over the weekend, leading a strong showing from Rogers County teams that also included Sequoyah and Verdigris.
Five of Oologah's six victories required a third set, including all three meetings with Skiatook. The Lady Mustangs [14-1] defeated the Lady Bulldogs 2-1 each time while also earning three-set victories against Pryor and Rejoice Christian.
Their lone sweep came against Wesleyan Christian.
Senior setter Isabella DeLaTorre orchestrated the run and was named the tournament's Offensive MVP. DeLaTorre piled up 129 assists across six matches while committing only 1 service error in 48 attempts.
Sophomore libero Sofie Jensen earned Defensive MVP honors after recording 58 digs. Jensen also contributed 7 aces while committing only three errors across 54 service attempts.
Halle Barron gave the Lady Mustangs a third individual honoree. The sophomore was selected to the All-Tournament Team after totaling 50 kills, 8 blocks and 8 aces.
Oologah opened the tournament with consecutive 2-1 victories over Pryor, Skiatook and Rejoice Christian before sweeping Wesleyan Christian 2-0. The Lady Mustangs then had to get past Skiatook twice more, winning both matches 2-1 to finish their championship run unbeaten.
Sequoyah also opened the tournament strongly.
The Lady Eagles [8-4] won their first three matches, defeating Edison 2-1 before sweeping fellow Rogers County program Verdigris 2-0. Sequoyah then survived Wesleyan Christian 2-1 to begin the tournament 3-0.
Skiatook ended that streak with a 2-1 victory, and Wesleyan Christian handed Sequoyah another three-set loss to close its tournament at 3-2.
No All-Tournament selections were provided for Sequoyah.
Verdigris, meanwhile, rebounded from a difficult start to finish the weekend with a winning record.
The Lady Cardinals [8-8] opened with a 2-1 victory over Edison before suffering consecutive sweeps against Wesleyan Christian and Sequoyah.
They responded by winning their final two matches, beating Pryor and Rejoice Christian by identical 2-1 scores to finish 3-2.
Adilynn McMahan represented Verdigris on the All-Tournament Team.
All told, the three Rogers County programs combined to go 12-4 at the tournament — with one of those losses coming in the head-to-head matchup between Sequoyah and Verdigris — while Oologah emerged from a busy weekend as the last team standing on its home floor.
