Football is BACK. I am also writing this coming off the birth (on Sunday) of my third child…..which might seem overwhelming for some, but for me, I am officially on paternity leave. This makes me a full time football watcher for the next few weeks. And so I digress…..
Welcome back to Notre Dame Fighting Irish Hot and Cold Takes! As a reminder to all of the readers, this is HEAVILY driven by you. The format allows readers and fans to leave their own takes for the game, both HOT and COLD. As a refresher, a HOT take is one that may cause some controversy, but will allow you to say, “CALLED IT!”. A COLD take is still impressive but is generally more reasonable/expected. Each week, I will feature the most accurate, most interesting, and the most wildly inaccurate after each game week. And now onto the takes as the Fighting Irish take on the Miami Hurricanes!

Cold Take: Jordan Faison sets career highs in receptions (more than 7) and yards (115).
Jordan Faison is going to get the ball early and often in this game. I expect him to finish with around 8–10 catches for 100+ yards, with a good chunk of that production coming on short and intermediate routes, plus one long, explosive play.
This is the first season of his life where he has been able to focus solely on football, and I expect that to show. He has also been healthy since the start of last year, and I think he’s poised to explode onto the national scene this season.
Carr needs a true WR1, and I believe Faison is going to be that guy.
Hot Take: The defense has 5+ sacks and 2 interceptions
Wisconsin is led by former Old Dominion quarterback Colton Joseph, a true dual-threat quarterback. The biggest challenges he’ll face in this game will be a battered offensive line, only having half the field to work with (thanks Leonard Moore), and likely having to play from behind.
That combination should allow Chris Ash’s unit to get creative with its pressure packages and force Joseph to press on a lot of throws. Expect the defense to play aggressively, with a spy likely assigned to Joseph to keep him from escaping the pocket.
All of this should create opportunities for the defense to get home, with sacks coming from all levels of the defense…a DT, DE, LB, and DB.
