Saints win Joe Ryan’s first rehab start

Twins pitching ace Joe Ryan, who has been out with an strained glute since Aug. 4, returned to the mound Tuesday as St. Paul pummeled host Omaha 11-2.
With a goal of returning to the big-league club’s staff before the end of the season, Ryan threw 42 pitches over three innings. He allowed one hit, a solo home run, while striking out four Storm Chasers before being relieved by Ryan Gallagher in the fourth.

Gallagher (6-7, 6.57 ERA) claimed the win after tossing four innings of six-hit, one-run ball. He struck out six while walking two.
First baseman Aaron Sabato gave the Saints all the runs they would need on a three-run homer in the top of the first. It was Sabato’s 23rd blast of the season, putting him one behind Matt Wallner’s current team lead and franchise Triple-A record of 24.
While Wallner didn’t find homer No. 25 on the night, second baseman Cody Morrissette hit his 13th round-tripper, with Emmanuel Rodriguez socking his 11th of the season.
Rodriguez went 4 for 5 in the game, driving in two runs and scoring three himself, to lead St. Paul’s 12-hit attack.
St. Paul (75-57) is back in action at Werner Park in Papillion, Neb. Wednesday afternoon in a 12:05 p.m. matinee. The Saints send Ricky Castro (3-3, 5.36 ERA) to the hill against Omaha’s Ryan Ramsey (5-7, 5.91 ERA).
