Elly De La Cruz's bullet nabs Dodgers' Teoscar Hernandez | Reactions

· Yahoo Sports

When the Los Angeles Dodgers' Teoscar Hernandez attempted to stretch a triple into an inside-the-park home run in the bottom of the third inning against the Cincinnati Reds, shortstop Elly De La Cruz received the relay throw from the outfield and uncorked a bullet, on target, to Reds catcher Jose Trevino to nail Hernandez at home plate.

The reaction from Reds.TV's John Sadak, Chris Welsh and Jim Day was as follows:

"What a relay from Elly De La Cruz!" Sadak said. "The cannon from mid-center (field)! And he got him at home plate! Disbelief from Dodger fans that Hernandez got gunned down by Elly!"

"He is a video game character," Sadak continued. "He just uncorked a throw that, if this is accurate, Statcast says he threw that ball to home plate … at 105.3 miles per hour! 105.3! Is this man real?"

"Do we appreciate what we're seeing here with Elly De La Cruz?" Welsh added.

"Oh my goodness!" Sadak said.

"Down here those who watch him every day and have marveled at Elly and are not surprised normally by what he does, they were shocked at that throw down there," Day added. "There were tons of disbelief looks, hands in air, mouths open. It was an awe-inspiring moment even to those that watch him every day."

"There's a saying that the triple is the most exciting play in baseball," Welsh said. "Well that is the most exciting triple that I've seen all year long. He gets credited with a three-bagger and thrown out by Elly."
