TheLos Angeles Clippers are still recovering from the aftershocks of the massive punishment that the NBA hammered them with last week as a result of the Kawhi Leonard salary cap circumnavigation scandal. The Clippers will be forced to part with five future first-round picks, in addition to hefty fines and suspensions for key figures within the organization.
One person who got off relatively easy is Leonard himself, who will have to pay $700,000 in restitution but won’t be suspended or fined.
Recently, NBA insider Jake Fischer reported that the Clippers are “frustrated, upset, and have resentment” in the wake of Leonard’s light punishment, per Fullcourtpass on X, formerly Twitter, via Bleacher Report.

Meanwhile, the Clippers’ attempted trade of Leonard to the Toronto Raptors has still not gone through as the team sorts out its new front office regime in the wake of the suspensions, although most sources have indicated that the deal will occur at some point before the new season gets underway.
In total, the Clippers essentially ended up giving up ten first round picks and NBA MVP Shai Gilgeous-Alexander in order to pair Leonard up with Paul George in 2019, when taking into account both the picks they gave up initially and those that they were forced to part with as a result of the punishment.
Los Angeles made it to a grand total of one Western Conference Finals appearance in the stars’ time together, a series in which Leonard didn’t even play due to injury.
It will certainly be interesting to see what kind of reception Leonard gets when the Raptors visit the Clippers in early November, assuming the trade does indeed go through before that point.
