Cade Otton Fantasy Week 1 Start or Sit: Stream Him, but Curb the Hype

Otton has never cleared 600 yards in a season and has scored 11 times in 63 career games, which is how a starting tight end ends up 30th at the position in PFN’s Week 1 rankings. The matchup helps, since Cincinnati let a tight end crack double-digit PPR points 14 times last season. I still think he’s nothing more than a streamer.

Should You Start or Sit Cade Otton in Week 1?

I’m not a fan of Cardio Cade for our game. He’s never cleared 600 yards in a season and has scored just 11 times across 63 career games. He’s really only ever seen his number called when the WR room is limping along and while that holds value in specific spots, I’ve always been of the belief that if the Bucs thought he was more than that, they’d give him the chance to be.

Maybe he sees north of five targets on a regular basis, and given the efficient nature of them, that’s enough to slide him into the top-12 at the position on a reasonably consistent basis. It could happen, but I need to see it. This is a player with one game of five or more receptions over the past 11 months and the QB sneak stuff has yet to really be weaponized in a way that matters for us.

Keep an eye. If the route count is high and he adds some depth to his route tree, there will be a streaming situation where he makes sense or a DFS paydown strategy checks out. We could get there … I’m just not opening the season with that as my default setting.

5th in routes last season among TE

22nd in PPR points last season among TE

I say that to discount your excitement should he hang a decent number this week. Life without Mike Evans is going to take some getting used to, and given that this Bengals defense allowed a TE to crack double digits in terms of PPR points 14 times last season, Otton has a chance to return back-end TE1 numbers this week.

I still think he’s nothing more than a streamer. A viable stream this week, sure, but don’t get over your skis should he help you get a win in Week 1.
