Felipe Chávez was one of a handful of bright, young gems unearthed in Bayern Munich’s preseason. The 19-year-old initially caught eyes after scoring and assisting two in Bayern’s 15-0 drubbing of FC Rottach-Eggern, following it up with a superb free-kick goal against Jeju SK.

The Peruvian talent’s performances were enough to convince Bayern against an outright sale, who opted to extend his contract through tom June 2028 before being sent on loan to 2. Bundesliga side, FC Magdeburg. Chávez has only played seven minutes of football for Magdeburg so far, coming on as a sub in their 2-1 loss against Hertha Berlin. The young attacker is reportedly being blooded in slowly before competing for a spot in the attack.

Chávez will be hoping to sharpen up as quickly as possible after Magdeburg ironically drew Bayern in the DFB-Pokal Second round.

“It couldn’t have been better for me,” explained Chávez when asked about drawing his parent club in an interview with FCM-TV (as captured by @iMiaSanMia). “I’m obviously delighted. It will certainly be a difficult task, but we want to win the game and progress to the next round.”

Bayern’s young talent will get an entire season to prove himself in Germany’s second division, but the opportunity to put his skills on display against the very club he is trying to impress is a rare opportunity.

The encounter will, at the very least, be a valuable experience and, at the most, the perfect chance to convince Bayern how his skill set can contribute in the future.
