Thursday night’s Buffalo Bills vs. Detroit Lions matchup had plenty of action, but some viewers were fighting a different battle from their couches. Amazon Prime Video’s stream reportedly hit viewers with pixelation, buffering, and repeated interruptions, making it tough to follow the game.
Instead of simply watching the Bills and Lions trade big plays, some fans found themselves staring at frozen screens and waiting for the action to return.

NFL Fans Blast Amazon Prime Over Bills-Lions Streaming Problems
The broadcast drew criticism from viewers who experienced inconsistent picture quality throughout the game. Analyst Brit Hume was among those who questioned whether streaming platforms should be held to technical standards when carrying major NFL games.
“My Amazon Prime stream of tonight’s NFL game has just gone blurry. Don’t these internet broadcasters have to meet some technical standards as part of their deal?” Hume wrote on X.
The complaints went beyond temporary picture issues, with frustrated viewers taking to X to question the quality of Amazon Prime’s broadcast.
Another viewer connected the technical problems with the cost of watching NFL games through streaming services, writing, “Game is unwatchable! Pay more, get less! Terrible reception.”
For another fan, the quality was so poor that it drew a comparison to an old video game system.

“Watching the NFL on Amazon Prime is like watching a football game on an old Atari game. Everything is so pixelated except the commercials seem to come in HD,” the fan wrote.
Buffering became another major complaint as the game continued.

One frustrated viewer said the problems had become severe enough to stop watching, writing, “Hey NFL, great job with Prime tonight. Buffering the whole game so far. Pathetic. Channel changed.”
Other viewers were still trying to determine whether the problem was widespread or limited to their own connections. “Ummm, anyone else having problems with Amazon Prime? I can’t even watch the game,” another fan wrote.
The technical complaints continued through the broadcast, with another viewer describing repeated interruptions and picture degradation: “The NFL is on Amazon Prime and my picture keeps being pixelated and interrupted with buffering!”
Considering the occasion featured a primetime game as Buffalo hosted Detroit in the regular-season debut of the new Highmark Stadium, the frustration among viewers is understandable.
Despite the viewing problems, Buffalo produced plenty of offense on the field. The Bills defeated the Lions 41-31, with Josh Allen accounting for five touchdowns as Buffalo built an early lead and held off Detroit’s second-half push.
