Giannis Antetokounmpo’s comments about Jalen Brunson at Miami Heat media day are sure to ruffle Bam Adebayo’s feathers.

At the Miami Heat’s NBA Media Day, Antetokounmpo and Adebayo answered questions from the press for the first time as teammates.
However, the Greek Freak may have already gotten under his teammate’s skin with one of his responses regarding Jalen Brunson.

During the Miami Heat’s NBA Media Day scrum, Giannis Antetokounmpo was asked about being ranked one of the best players heading into the NBA season.
As usual, Antetokounmpo explained that distinction only matters when it is followed by success, so in his eyes, Jalen Brunson is one of the best players – an answer Bam Adebayo did not agree with.
Giannis Antetokounmpo: “I truly believe that, if not the best, I am one of the best players in the world. I know when I’m at my best, when I’m locked in, when my body is right, I truly believe I can dominate the game and impact the game in both ways, offensively and defensively.
“I think I’ve shown it over the years. Even last year, that was one of my toughest years, I was still able to affect the game in some way.
“When you’re up there, top five, four, three, two, one, whatever, the best player is whoever is able to impact the game, help his team go deep & win the championship. That’s who is the best player to me.
“For me to have an ESPN, Bleacher Report-type ranking as #1 is cool. But I don’t think in 20-30 years I will show my kids that…
“I don’t care about being the best, I care about being a winner. When you’re a winner, then you can have a conversation…
“Right now, the best team in the NBA is the New York Knicks, and they have one of the best players in Jalen Brunson.”
Bam Adebayo: (winces) “Umm…”
Giannis: “He didn’t like that. It’s a rivalry, right? But we’ve got to do our job, man. And if we do our job & win games, then we’ll see.”
Clearly, Adebayo did not agree with Giannis giving that distinction to Brunson and the Knicks. But perhaps the Greek Freak was trying to motivate the former All-Star ahead of the new season.
For now, the Knicks are the team to beat, and the Heat will be hoping to stop the reigning world champions from going back-to-back this season.
