Iowa vs Washington Prediction: What's Wrong With the Huskies?
· Yahoo Sports
Washington was a hip team to pick for the College Football Playoff before the season began. There’s no Ohio State or Michigan on the schedule, Indiana has to come to Seattle, and with a few breaks, everything was set up for a great season.
But it’s been a struggle from the start. The Huskies looked sleepy against Washington State, almost didn’t wake up in the 16-14 win over Utah State, and were the ones who couldn’t hold up late at night in a 27-24 home loss to Minnesota. And then, last week they lost 25-21 at USC for an 0-2 Big Ten start.
Meanwhile, even with a loss last week to Ohio State, Iowa has everything in place to be in the CFP mix with a favorable schedule the rest of the way – no Indiana, Oregon, or Penn State – but that dream all but dies if it’s not flying back from Seattle with a win.

Why Iowa Will Win
So, really, what’s wrong with Washington? Quarterback Demond Williams Jr. has been fine, but he hasn’t been special, especially on third downs. The Huskies are 130th in the nation and dead last in the Big Ten, converting just 29% of the time.
There’s a problem with penalties. The four turnovers in the last three games hurt, the pass protection isn’t there, and the offense is keeping the ball for just 28:38 per game. In other words, Washington is blah at everything Iowa is good at.
Why Washington Will Win
Yeah, yeah, yeah, everyone is still buzzing so much after the win over Michigan that the Ohio State loss was almost instantly memory-dumped. But it still took a whole slew of fortunate breaks to get that win over the Wolverines, the win over Iowa State was a 16-13 fight, and the margin for error, as always, is absolute zero.
Washington and Williams have their spurts. There’s good pop and explosion to the attack, averaging over eight yards per pass. For all of the good things Iowa does, Ohio State’s Julian Sayin averaged 12 yards per throw, and the much-maligned Bryce Underwood averaged close to ten yards per pass for Michigan.
Iowa vs Washington Prediction, Betting Lines
Washington is way overdue to come up with a terrific performance. Yes, Iowa is being a bit overloved thanks to a few good things that went the right way, and while Minnesota beat Washington with a far better game than the final score might indicate, the Huskies lost their two games by a grand total of seven points.
Is this when the Huskies finally wake up and play like they’re supposed to, or will they slump after the last two losses? It’ll be a little bit of both, and this week, it’ll be enough to be on the right side of a close win against a good team.
